The Special Telecommunications Service (STS) was in heavy demand over the three days of the Christmas holidays, with more than 90,000 calls to the 112 emergency number. The majority of calls were for medical assistance, highlighting the increased need for intervention during this period.

Between 24-26 December, STS operators processed 91,056 calls nationwide, of which 60.98% were emergencies. On 26 December, the busiest day, an average of 22 calls per minute were recorded.

When it comes to the type of emergencies, medical interventions accounted for a significant share, with 27,371 calls seeking medical assistance for various ailments, severe respiratory problems or medical emergencies. Other calls concerned public order incidents and fires, with 1,581 calls directed to the police or gendarmerie.

There were also 56 calls relating to emergencies involving tourists on mountain slopes or trails. With the help of the Call 112 application, developed by STS, which allows advanced localisation of the device from which the emergency call is initiated, 13 calls were handled.

In the context of road events, 1,004 calls to 112 were recorded, of which 35 were made via the eCall system. This system automatically generates 112 calls in the event of a road accident and transmits critical information for the intervention of rescue crews.
