Investigation at Airbus Atlantic after mass gastroenteritis illness at Christmas dinner
Festive dinner for employees at Airbus Atlantic turns into a nightmare
French health authorities have launched a wide-ranging investigation following an unpleasant incident at a Christmas dinner for Airbus Atlantic employees. More than 700 staff attended the festive event, which turned into a gastroenteritis nightmare for a significant number of them.
The dinner, held at the company's own restaurant, included fine dishes such as foie gras, lobster, scallops and filet mignon, and for dessert, a selection of ice creams and chocolate hazelnut mousse. However, the joy of the festivities was overshadowed by the rapid onset of vomiting and diarrhea symptoms in a significant number of attendees, The Guardian reports.
Many of the employees presented to hospital following the event with unpleasant and persistent symptoms. Health authorities have launched a thorough investigation to identify the exact cause of the mass illness.
One eyewitness reported that the pain and discomfort was particularly intense, comparable to a severe migraine. However, the Airbus spokesman said that none of those affected suffered serious medical consequences.
Laboratory tests are currently underway to identify the pathogen responsible for the incident. Jean-Claude Iribarren, secretary of the Airbus Atlantic employees' committee, said that samples of all products served at the company's restaurant would be submitted to the health authorities for analysis.
Until the circumstances are fully clarified, the incident remains under the close attention of the authorities and the affected employees are receiving the necessary support for their recovery.
