During a press conference, the Belgian Foreign Minister announced the approval of the agreement and the opening of EU accession negotiations

Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib announced this during a press conference.

"I would like to mention that this morning the EU Council approved the draft joint security commitment between the European Union and Ukraine. And of course I have to mention the opening of EU accession negotiations this afternoon", the minister said.

She said Belgium is preparing for the next European Council summit, to be held in Brussels at the end of the week.

"This European Council will give a full picture of our support for Ukraine in all its manifestations", Lahbib added.

On June 19, the Ukrainian and European sides held the final round of talks on the security agreement, which resulted in the EU and Ukraine agreeing on the text of the document.

The EU and Ukraine have agreed on the text of the security agreement, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to sign it on June 26. Deutsche Welle reported this, citing a senior EU official.

On June 24, it became known that the draft security agreement between Ukraine and the EU consists of two main sections of nine points each. The first section focuses on defense cooperation, and the second on the future of Ukraine and its citizens in the European Union.
