Magical stories in the Swedish Post Archive: 10,000 unusual letters to Santa Claus
PostNord reveals the treasures of letters sent over the past 100 years: from modest requests to extravagant wishes, childhood emotions passed through the pen
Sweden's PostNord has kept 10,000 special letters to Santa Claus over the past 100 years in its archive. With around 16,000 letters a year with destinations such as "Lapland" or "Reindeer Country", these epistolary treasures offer a fascinating glimpse into the world of children who shared their holiday wishes.
Among these letters is the oldest dating from 1890, and recipients come from all over the world, including the United States and Asia, with special mention of Taiwan, reports Digi24.
Kristina Olofsdotter, PostNord's stamp manager, adds that over the years, toys, pets and books have been among the most desired gifts. Letters from the past reveal children's modest expectations, unlike today's long wish lists.
Children often ask Santa questions, and the answers sent by the museum encourage them to make their dreams come true by believing in themselves.
As well as children, a 20-year-old adult in Taiwan added a special touch this year by sending a touching letter to Santa.
