Disinformation alert: Moldova's Intelligence and Security Service warns against campaigns targeting its relations with Ukraine
Suspicious groups plan to release damning intelligence to destabilise regional security
Groups of individuals are preparing to launch false accusations against state institutions, targeting Ukrainian officials, the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) in Chisinau has warned. The SIS says it has obtained data on the resumption of disinformation campaigns aimed at destabilising Moldovan society and regional security.
In a statement, the SIS stresses that these campaigns are aimed at compromising Moldova's diplomatic relations, especially ties with Ukraine. The aims include diminishing trust and the intensity of cooperation between Moldovan and Ukrainian authorities, as well as reducing interoperability in ensuring regional security between the security bodies of both countries.
Among the alleged members of this group are former intelligence officers, Moldovan citizens, dismissed from office due to corruption and abuses. SIS warns that these actions are part of the arsenal of the hybrid war waged by the Russian Federation against the Republic of Moldova, aimed at discrediting the efforts of the Moldovan authorities to maintain regional peace and security.
SIS warns that such actions will increase in 2024 and 2025, targeting reform processes, elections in the Republic of Moldova and, in particular, negotiations for accession to the European Union. The Service advises citizens to be vigilant and to inform themselves from official sources, stressing that it will react promptly to any threat to national security.
