What Republican and Democratic leaders in the Senate agreed on

Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell signed a statement postponing the issue of aid to Ukraine until next year. The senators expect to make a "quick decision" in January 2024.

It was reported by Reuters , which has read the signed document.

The US Senate will not vote on a package to provide additional assistance to Ukraine and strengthen US border security until early next year.

"As negotiators work out the remaining issues, we hope their efforts will allow the Senate to take swift action on a supplemental national security authorization early in the new year. In the remaining time this year, Senate and Administration negotiators will continue to work in good faith to finalize their agreement", - the document says.

The senators said that despite the "serious challenges" they are ready to help allies and partners counter threats in Israel, Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific region.

We remind you that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at his press conference on December 19 that he was confident that the United States would provide financial assistance to Ukraine. According to him, everything will be done "in full".

At the same time, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that the US has no alternative source of funding for Ukraine. And the Pentagon has announced the date when the country will run out of money to help Ukraine. Officials said that the department will not have money on December 30 this year.

The White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby has also recently said that US President Joe Biden is ready to compromise with Republicans on border security and migration policy. He is trying to unlock additional assistance to Ukraine.
