Top Dutch general calls to prepare for the possibility of war with Russia

According to him, The Hague should follow the example of Sweden, Finland and the Baltic states, as they border on or are close to Russia, so they are better prepared for the outbreak of war

The Commander-in-Chief of the Dutch Army, Martin Weinen, who is retiring on January 1, 2024, expressed serious concern about the possibility of war with Russia and called on the country and society to prepare for this scenario.

In his interview with De Telegraaf, he noted that in light of the deterioration of relations with Russia, the Netherlands should take into account the possible risk of military conflict and take measures to ensure the security of its society.

Weinen advised to follow the example of other countries that share a common border or have the greatest possibility of being involved in a conflict, such as Sweden, Finland and the Baltic states, and actively prepare their defense and civilian structures for an eventual war.

The general also emphasized the need for a strong army as a deterrent to Russia, stating that it is the only language the Russian regime understands. Therefore, it is important to improve and maintain the armed forces to ensure national security.

The General also outlined some measures for army reform, especially in addressing the personnel shortage, and expressed hope that the initiative of one-year voluntary service for young people, taken after the successful experience of Sweden, would help attract new reservists and strengthen the country's defense.
