Slovakia has decided to support the opening of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU
The new Slovak government has changed its mind and will support Ukraine at the December EU leaders' summit
The new Slovak government has officially stated its readiness to support the decision to open negotiations with Ukraine on joining the European Union
European Pravda reports this with reference to Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar's words
"Having assessed the reform efforts in Kyiv, we are ready to support the opening of accession negotiations, which will be discussed at the upcoming European Council meeting. However, our eastern neighbour still has a long and thorny path ahead of it, and all the necessary measures need to be not only approved, but also implemented and monitored", Blanár said.
In addition, the Slovak Foreign Minister reiterated the position of the new government that Slovakia does not plan to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
"At the same time, we will continue to provide humanitarian support to Ukraine, in particular in the area of demining and preparation of energy infrastructure for the winter, and we have already taken concrete steps in this regard", Blanar said.
The leaders' summit, scheduled for 14-15 December, will consider Ukraine's accession to the EU. Until now, the position of Slovakia, which changed its government after the elections, has been uncertain. Only Hungary is categorically against such negotiations.
