Mobile Operator Falls Victim to Hacker Attack

On the morning of 12 December, Kyivstar, Ukraine's largest mobile operator, experienced a large-scale technical failure. Users on social media began to report that they could not make calls or send messages, and the company's website was down.

The company's spokeswoman, Iryna Lelichenko, told  Ukrainska Pravda that the technical team are already working to fix the problem.

"In the morning of 12 December, Kyivstar's network experienced a technical failure, which may result in the unavailability of communication and Internet access services for part of the subscriber base. The company's specialists are already working to fix the problem. We apologise to our subscribers for the temporary difficulties and thank them for their understanding," - Lelichenko said.

According to dev.ua sources, the massive technical outage was caused by a hacker attack on the network core. This information was later confirmed by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
