Navalny has disappeared from the colony

Alexei Navalny
Russian Opposition Leader's Whereabouts Unknown

The whereabouts of imprisoned russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny are unknown after he was taken from the colony where he was serving his sentence.

Kira Yarmysh, the press secretary of Alexei Navalny, reported this on social network X.

"Today, as on Friday, the lawyers tried to get to IK-6 and IK-7 —  two colonies in the Vladimir region where Alexei Navalny might be. They have just been informed simultaneously in both colonies that he is not there", Yarmash wrote.

She clarified that Navalny's family and friends still do not know where he is.

Yarmysh also wrote that the staff at the Melekhovo colony confirmed that he is no longer registered there.

Navalny's aides had expected him to be transferred to a prison with a stricter regime after his sentence was extended.

Navalny's lawyers attribute his disappearance to the recent announcement of the election.

On Monday, Navalny's associates said they had not heard from him for six days. He was absent from the last few court hearings, which he had previously attended via video link. The colony management explained his absence as being due to technical problems.
