Research Platform project: studying and promoting contemporary art in Ukraine
Since 2017, the PinchukArtCentre has been running the Research Platform, which studies and promotes contemporary art practices in Ukraine. Ksenia Malykh, contemporary art researcher and head of the Research Platform, says that one of the key initiatives is the creation of an archive of contemporary Ukrainian art, which is an exceptional phenomenon due to the absence of a museum of contemporary art in Ukraine.
"The archive is an extremely important thing, it provides continuity in the history of Ukrainian art," Malykh notes . In particular, this archive allows us to understand how contemporary art is rooted in the artistic expressions of past decades. The project's achievements include the Research Platform Online Tool , an online database that publishes profiles of artists and their works, as well as the publication of books and lectures on contemporary Ukrainian art. So far, the following books have been published in Ukrainian and English: "Parkomuna" and "Why there are great women artists in Ukrainian art".
An important part of the department's work is also pedagogical and social programs aimed at children and teenagers, as well as programs for people with special needs.
According to Malykh, the influence of time on Ukrainian contemporary art is manifested in different stages - from the perestroika period to the development of social media and digitalization. The archive acts as a key tool for preserving various aspects of this artistic evolution, helping to reveal and understand the diversity of Ukrainian contemporary art.
