Delays and failures at the Arad road passage
Reasons given - weather conditions
The construction of the road overpass over the railway, started in 2012 on the Arad ring road, is facing new delays. The works, which were supposed to be completed by the deadline of 22 November 2023, have been postponed again, this time citing weather conditions.
The company responsible for carrying out the works has asked for the deadline to be extended until the end of the year, citing difficulties linked to weather conditions that would not allow the last layer of asphalt to be applied on time. Representatives of the Timişoara Regional Roads and Bridges Directorate said the builder's request is under consideration, reports Agerpre s.
Work on the overpass began in 2012 and was originally due to be completed in 2013, but funding was stopped, and the project was abandoned. After work resumed in 2018, there have been various delays, including the refusal of some landowners to allow the relocation of electricity networks. The project was marked by frequent changes of contractors and repeated delays, and the final deadline was extended several times.
The project delays have caused discomfort for motorists and local residents, who continue to face traffic problems and frequent traffic jams at rail crossings. Work is expected to resume and complete the crossing in the coming months, but this is also dependent on weather conditions in the immediate future.
