Ammunition for Ukraine: NATO has already placed orders for €2.4 billion

NATO Allies are currently coordinating efforts to increase ammunition production

Today, November 14, the EU Council on Foreign Relations (at the level ofdefense ministers) is taking place in Brussels. One of the main issues is thecontinuation and increase of military assistance to Ukraine in its fightagainst the russian invasion. According to NATO Secretary General JensStoltenberg, the Alliance and European allies should do more to help Ukraine.Also, according to him, NATO has already ordered €2.4 billion worth ofammunition from the industry. This was reported by Ukrinform .

Before participating in a business breakfast within the framework of theEU Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs (Defense), NATO Secretary GeneralJens Stoltenberg said that NATOand European allies should provide more support to Ukraine.

"I expect that during the meeting we will review the situation inUkraine, where intense fighting continues. The situation on the battlefield isdifficult, and this makes it even more important to continue and increase oursupport for Ukraine. We cannot allow President putin to win. Ukraine mustsurvive as a sovereign independent state in Europe, and it is in our interestto support Ukraine", — Stoltenberg emphasized.

NATO orders €2.4 billion worth of ammunition

According to Stolenberg, NATO Allies are coordinating efforts toincrease the production of ammunition needed to maintain their own security andto continue to provide assistance to Ukraine. To this end, the Alliance hasalready placed orders for €2.4 billion with industry.

"What we are doing on the NATO side is working with our industry.Last month, a relevant forum (with representatives of the defense industry —ed.) was held in Stockholm. We also join forces in the Alliance through theNATO Logistics and Procurement Agency. We have and have already placed a jointorder worth 2.4 billion (euros — ed.), and one day they will be translated intodirect contracts. So, NATO continues to deliver assistance (to Ukraine — ed.)and increase its own production in many ways", — Stoltenberg said.

He also emphasized that all allies, including the United States, theUnited Kingdom, Germany and other European allies, are working to increaseammunition production, adding that they are increasing their own defenseproduction capabilities.

"I just visited Germany, and I was impressed with how they have setup production and how they are investing in increasing production capacity...It was during this visit last week that Germany announced a significant new aidpackage for Ukraine. So our allies are really increasing this assistance,"the NATO Secretary General added.

Earlier, the EU expressed doubts that it would be able to supply Ukrainewith the promised one million rounds of ammunition by March 2024.
