Fraudster extorted $10,000 from wife of fallen soldier

Man impersonated SBU officer

TheSecurity Service of Ukraine detained a Kharkiv resident who posed as an SBUofficer and extorted money from the wife of a fallen serviceman, convincing herthat he was in russian captivity.


Thiswas reported by the press service of the SBU and the National Police ofUkraine.

"Theoffender "played" on the fact that the soldier died in the so-calledgray zone, so his body has not yet been handed over to his relatives", - theSBU said.

Thefraudster contacted the wife, saying that he was an employee of the SecurityService and could "guarantee" the return of her husband by puttinghim on the "priority" list for exchange.

"Hesaid that my husband was in captivity, it was 100% true, and that thisacquaintance would 'solve this issue' for 10 thousand dollars", - saidthe wife Olena.

Sheimmediately realized it was a lie and contacted law enforcement.


Theoffender was detained and notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 190 ofthe Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud). He faces up to 12 years in prison withconfiscation of property.


As areminder, on November 30, the court sentenced in absentia to 11 years in prisoncollaborator yulia lozanova, who left Ukraine for moscow in 2015, where sheconstantly spoke in support of the Russian invaders and made propaganda callsin numerous broadcasts on the solovyev Live TV channel.
