In 2024, the number of foreign workers who will be allowed to work in Romania will reach 140,000, a significant increase of 40% compared to the current year.
Sectors with the most employers looking for foreign labour include retail, HoReCa, services, construction, transport/logistics and tourism, according to an analysis published by eJobs , the online recruitment platform. There is also a high demand for entry-level positions that require no more than two years' experience.
Of the nearly 350,000 jobs posted between January and November 2023, retail employers contributed 86,000 jobs, followed by service companies with 51,000, food industry with 40,000, tourism with 37,000, transport/logistics with 32,000 and construction with 28,000.
The analysis highlights the national average net salaries for entry level positions in these fields. These range from 2,600 to 3,600 lei, with 3,000 lei for retail, 3,600 lei for construction, 3,000 lei for food and HoReCa, 3,100 lei for transport and distribution, and 2,600 lei for tourism.
In 2022, the number of work permits allocated to foreign workers saw the largest increase, after the quota of foreign workers admitted in 2021 was 50,000, double the previous year. The data show that more than 96,000 work contracts for non-EU employees were registered in 2021.
