The Embassy of the United States of America in Bucharest has partnered with the Government of Romania and the National Council of Rectors (CNR) to launch a 'USA Visa Facilitation' program for higher education teachers in Romania. This program offers priority in obtaining appointments for B1/B2 (business/tourism) visa interviews and will be available for one year.

Eligibility also extends to immediate family members of teachers, which includes their spouse and children. The program can be accessed by both those with existing travel plans to the US and those with no concrete plans but who may need a visa in the future. It also applies to renewals of existing visas, according to Agerpres.

Eligibility criteria include holding Romanian citizenship, being a teacher at a Romanian higher education institution, having no previous denials of entry to the US, and having no tax or criminal records for both the applicant and their spouse.

Administered through the Romanian American University, this program is part of a broader national effort to include Romania in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program (VWP). The facilitation program will be available until October 1, 2024.
