The bill about assistance to Israel without Ukraine has trapped the Republicans – Ukrainian diplomat
Republicans in the House of Representatives fell into a rather skillfully set trap by the Democrats
The resolution, which combines aid to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and strengthening the borders of the United States, will be voted on.
This was stated in an interview on Espresso by diplomat and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Volodymyr Ogryzko.
According to the expert, by approving the bill for aid to Israel without Ukraine, the Republicans in the House of Representatives have cleverly fallen into a trap set by the Democrats.
"Look, now the Senate will not pass this resolution and will prepare its version that will unite Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and the borders. And then they will return this version to the House of Representatives, and if it doesn't get passed there, the Democrats will immediately say that the Republicans don't want to help not only Ukraine but also Israel. Therefore, this united resolution proposed by Biden will be passed, and the compromise here is absolutely obvious," said the diplomat.
Oghryzko mentioned that there might be some corrections in the amounts of aid, but they will not be significant. And the mechanisms that exist in the president and the secretary of state will actually help balance this situation.
"$50 billion or $60 billion is a huge amount, and if it is correctly transformed into weapons, that would be quite enough to change the course of the war. If we get what we want, it means that the chances for the Russians will be significantly reduced," believes Volodymyr Ogryzko.
It is worth noting that at the end of October, U.S. President Joe Biden submitted a bill to Congress on providing military aid jointly to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, as well as financing the strengthening of security on the U.S.-Mexico border for a total amount of $106 billion. Of this amount, $61.3 billion is planned to be allocated to Ukraine for weapons and $14.3 billion for Israel's needs.
However, the newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, presented his own bill, which provides for providing aid only to Israel in the amount of $14.3 billion, without simultaneous aid to Ukraine.
Despite requests not to approve the "Israeli" bill, on November 2, the House of Representatives did approve the bill of the Speaker of the House.
In the U.S. Senate, where the majority is held by Democrats, and in the Biden administration, they intend to veto Johnson's package.
