russia's shelling of Zaporizhzhia NPP has led to a threat of blackout
Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant Faces Risk of Power Supply Loss Due to russian Attacks
Energoatom reported a critical situation at Zaporizhzhia NPP, which is under the threat of blackout due to russian shelling.
"Today, April 04, 2024, at 10:06 a.m., due to russian attacks, the external overhead line of OHL-330kV Zaporizhzhia TPP - Ferrosplavna, which provided power supply to the temporarily occupied ZNPP from the Ukrainian power system for its own needs, was disconnected," the report says.
Currently, ZNPP is connected to the Ukrainian power grid only through the OHL-750kV Dniprovska transmission line, which has recently been restored.
"This puts the plant on the verge of another blackout in case of disconnection of this last line of communication with the national power grid, which can lead to an emergency and violation of safe operation conditions," Energoatom warns.
Since the beginning of the russian occupation, Zaporizhzhia NPP has already experienced eight full blackouts and one partial blackout, when emergency diesel generators and safety systems had to be turned on to prevent a catastrophe. The latest blackout threat occurred on March 22 after russian shelling, but power engineers later restored the damaged power supply line.
