Ukraine produces 8 Bohdana air defense systems per month - NYT
The Ukrainian military-industrial complex produces 8 self-propelled artillery systems "Bohdana" per month
The New York Times writes about this.
The publication reminded that at the time of russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine had one such system. And it is capable of firing NATO-caliber shells.
"Ukraine's arms industry is now building eight Bohdana self-propelled artillery systems every month, and while officials won't say how many they have produced in total, the increase in production indicates a potential boom in domestic arms production in the country," the article says.
At the same time, russia is already quadrupling its weapons production in round-the-clock operations.
The publication also reviewed Ukrainian government documents, which say that over the past year, Ukrainian defense companies have built three times more armored vehicles than they produced before the war and quadrupled the production of anti-tank missiles.
Janes analyzed Ukraine's military budget until 2030, according to which research and development funding will increase eightfold this year - to $1.3 billion from $162 million. And military procurement will jump to a projected 20-year high of almost $10 billion in 2023, compared to the pre-war figure of about $1 billion a year.
It also notes that some weapons are harder to produce in Ukraine than others. This is particularly true of 155mm artillery shells, which are so necessary on the battlefield, "but depend on imported raw materials and licensing rights from Western manufacturers or governments." Ukrainian production of 155-mm shells is "on the way," the NYT quoted Alexander Kamyshin, Ukraine's Minister of Strategic Industry, as saying.
The Ukrainian government plans to spend about $6 billion this year on domestically produced weapons, including one million drones.
