Europe does not have its own united army, today it is defended by Ukraine, - MEP at the KSF
Europe has been living without wars for more than 80 years, and its residents do not fully understand the scale of the tragedy that is taking place in Ukraine.
This was stated by Antonio Lopez-Isturiz White, Member of the European Parliament (Spain), Secretary General of the Centrist Democratic International, during the 16th annual Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation, writes espreso.tv.
"Ukrainians must understand that it takes some time for European societies to really understand that this war is our war," he said.
The European Union, according to the MEP, did not respond properly to the war in the Balkans when Crimea was annexed and when russia invaded Georgia.
"We are much closer now, but we are still far from being able to act adequately on our own. Our European army is the Ukrainian army. We don't have our own united European army, some countries are more committed to this task, some are less committed," White said.
According to the MP, there is also a lack of media attention to the war in Ukraine in Europe.
"Every day they write about Gaza and less about Ukraine. I would urge the media to pay more attention to this. If there is no picture, no text, people lose interest," the MEP said.
"For democratically-minded politicians, it is our duty to inform people. We have to unite and win over those who are inclined to the far right. It is important to unite Europe," he concluded.
The 16th annual Kyiv Security Forum, organized to mobilize transatlantic support for Ukraine, is taking place on March 21-22. The slogan of this year's forum: "Ukraine says to the world: let's win together!"
