Local resident places improvised explosives in fruit boxes

Ukraine's Security Service detained a man who, under the supervision of russian special services, planned to remotely detonate an improvised explosive device after receiving a notification of the arrival of cargo at one of the postal departments in Zaporizhzhia.

"The traitor hid the finished device in fruit boxes to send them to the cargo department of one of the postal operators. After receiving a message about the delivery of the "order" to the post office, the suspect was to detonate the explosive by phone call," - the statement said.

The terrorist attack aimed to kill many people and spread panic among Zaporizhzhia's residents. However, the attacker was captured at the stage of preparation of the terrorist attack.

"In addition, during the investigation, the SBU found that an additional task of the russian agent was to identify places of mass concentration of personnel and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was supposed to pass the information to the aggressor to prepare sabotage against the Defense Forces or conduct air strikes," - the SBU added.

The collaborator was a resident of Zaporizhzhia, who was remotely recruited in early 2023 by a staff member of the 316th Intelligence Center of the General Staff of the russian Armed Forces. The man was supposed to receive a monetary reward from the occupiers for the terrorist attacks.

The suspect has been formally charged with treason. He faces life imprisonment.

As a reminder, the Security Service of Ukraine served a notice of suspicion in absentia to the artist Taisia Povaliy, who became a russian citizen and publicly supported the full-scale invasion of russian troops on the territory of Ukraine.
