Moldova and Ukraine strengthen cooperation through joint State Border Control and infrastructure projects

Prime Ministers Dorin Recean and Denys Shmyhal sign inter-institutional protocols on organizing joint control at seven Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing points, underlining mutual support for EU integration and intensified bilateral cooperation

Prime Minister Dorin Recean and his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal participated via video conference in the signing ceremony of inter-institutional protocols on the organization of joint control at seven Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing points. The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine thus reaffirmed their mutual support for their agenda of integration into the European Union and for strengthening trade, economic, social and political cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Recean underlined that the signing of these protocols is an essential step towards EU accession and noted that it is a joint victory for both countries. Officials agreed to continue bilateral dialogue and to intensify cooperation on regional security, reports gov.md

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal highlighted the positive impact of these actions on the diversification of bilateral trade and the strengthening of the "Solidarity Corridors'' to the European Union. Last year, about 1.6 million tons of Ukrainian agricultural products transited the Republic of Moldova.

Discussions also included joint infrastructure projects, such as the start of the construction of the Cosăuți – Yampil bridge and the expansion of natural gas transportation and storage capacity in the neighboring country.

The signing of the protocols concerns the "Briceni - Rossoșanî", "Criva - Mămăliga", "Giurgiulești – Reni", "Larga – Kelmențî", "Palanca - Maiaki-Udobnoe", "Pervomaisc - Cuciurgan" and "Platonovo-Goianul Nou" border crossings. The management of the Customs Service and the General Inspectorate of Border Police were present at the event.
