A purchase of overpriced bulletproof vests was discovered at the crime scene

The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau disclosed the head of one of Ukrenergo's departments, who in the spring of 2022 organized the purchase of body armor for the energy company's employees at an artificially inflated cost.

To implement the deal, the official engaged an affiliated commercial structure that did not have permits and licenses for the production of military ammunition. In addition, the "contractors" had never been engaged in the manufacture of body armor.

According to the investigation, the Ukrenergo official purchased a batch of the relevant equipment from this firm at twice the cost of the state funds. This resulted in budget losses of more than UAH 10 million.

According to the Security Service and NABU, the former Ukrenergo official has been reported on suspicion under part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power or official position, if it caused serious consequences). The issue of selecting a preventive measure for him is being decided. The investigation is continuing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The defendant faces up to 6 years of imprisonment.

Note: According to part one of Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is legally proven and established by a court verdict of guilty.

On June 6, it became known that the head and an employee of the migration control department of the State Migration Service of Ukraine in Odessa region, who promised to help a Moldovan native avoid deportation for $20,000, were suspected.
