Kuleba names start date for Ukraine's EU accession talks

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said that negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union will start on Tuesday, June 25

"I thanked the 27 EU countries for endorsing the negotiating framework of Ukraine and Moldova. Our accession negotiations will start tomorrow", Kuleba said after addressing the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

The minister added that he also noted the importance of the EU's 14th package of sanctions to further suppress the war economy of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and welcomed the EU's recent moves to use frozen Russian assets in Ukraine's favor.

"Separately, I noted the need to accelerate the delivery of military aid, especially air defense, the expansion of defense industry production. We can and must defeat Russian aggression on Ukrainian soil to ensure long-term peace and stability in the whole of Europe", the Ukrainian foreign minister emphasized.
  • The day before, the Council of the European Union officially confirmed the negotiating framework for Ukraine and Moldova to join the bloc.
