Canada's Minister of Public Safety announced the listing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization

Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc announced the listing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. LeBlanc said the Canadian government will "ensure that there is no immunity for Iran's illegal actions and its support for terrorism".

Canada has also added the Quds Force, the military arm of the Special Operations Corps, to the list. The Canadian government's decision came after pressure from Parliament as well as relatives of victims of the January 2020 UIA plane crash in Tehran.

Canadian officials have previously explained their reluctance to do so by saying Iran could retaliate against Canadians in the country. At the same time, Ottawa has already barred tens of thousands of Iranian officials, including leading members of the IRGC, from entering the country.
