Man with Ukrainian documents detained in Bulgaria on suspicion of espionage
Bulgaria has detained on suspicion of espionage in favor of a foreign state a 23-year-old man with Ukrainian documents who sneaked into the territory of TPS "Maritsa-Vostok-2"
It is stated that a man with Ukrainian documents was detained by guards of a thermal power plant. During searches, the figure was found in possession of cell phones, cameras, as well as SIM cards and memory cards.
The man was detained for collecting state secret information for a foreign state.
At the same time, it is emphasized that expert examinations are being prepared to determine whether the detainee photographed strategic objects, and if so, which ones. It will also be established whether the defendant is a citizen of Ukraine, whether he is engaged in espionage activities and how he got to the territory of the TPS.
According to Sofia Deputy City Prosecutor Kristian Krustev, there is no threat to the national security of Bulgaria.
The prosecutor's office is now preparing to file a petition for the indefinite arrest of the detainee.
