Leopard, HIMARS and IRIS-T: Germany announces new aid package for Ukraine

On Friday, June 14, the German Defense Ministry announced a new aid package for Ukraine. It includes IRIS-T air defense systems, Leopard tanks and HIMARS MLRSs

According to the report, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, in February 2022, Germany has provided Ukraine with logistical supplies from German Armed Forces depots worth about 5.2 billion euros at an estimated replacement cost.

The new aid package from Germany included:
  • 20 MARDER infantry fighting vehicles with spare parts and ammunition
  • 10 Leopard 1A1 tanks and ammunition
  • IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defense system
  • IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defense system
  • IRIS-T SLM short-range air defense system
  • 3 HIMARS rocket artillery systems
  • two BEAVER bridge laying vehicles
  • two Dachs armored engineer vehicles
  • armored recovery vehicle Bergepanzer 2
  • 4 Wisent 1 mine clearance vehicles with spare parts
  • 16 fuel tankers.

In addition, the new aid package will contain ammunition, small arms and 4 million rounds of ammunition, mine clearance and ordnance disposal equipment, boats, three AMPS systems to protect helicopters, and IT equipment.

  • On Tuesday, June 11, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the delivery of a new aid package to Ukraine, which will contain a Patriot air defense system, an IRIS-T installation, Gepard and ammunition. At the same time, the head of the German Defense Ministry, Boris Pistorius, said that the country, together with its allies, was providing 100 missiles to Patriot batteries.
