During the announcement, it was noted that the new Telegram Stars currency will allow paying for digital services in mini-apps
Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced the introduction of an internal currency, Telegram Stars. The currency will allow users to pay for digital services in mini-apps that do not require installation to use.
Telegram's mini-apps, such as Notcoin, can accept payments for digital services using in-app payments on Android and iOS. App developers will be able to use the "stars" to further promote their products.
"Unlike old-school apps, Telegram mini-apps like Notcoin don't need to be installed to use. That's why they are growing so quickly. In addition, the social nature of Telegram allows mini-apps to spread virally, so they reach tens of millions of users within weeks", the report said.
Apple and Google will take a 30% commission when users buy "stars" from them. However, when reinvesting within Telegram, the commission will be zero.
"As a result, launching apps in Telegram makes more economic sense than launching traditional mobile apps", Durov added.
Durov earlier announced changes to Telegram channels aimed at Ukrainian users due to App Store requirements.
