About this Euractiv reports .

The meeting focused on discussions about strengthening cooperation in the field of migration, which led to a 56% reduction in the flow of illegal migrants through the Italian-Turkish corridor this year.

The report also notes that cooperation is also becoming closer with regard to Libya, and the relevant foreign ministries plan to reach an agreement in the near future.

Meloni's visit is seen as an opportunity to reaffirm the strategic nature of Italy's partnership with Turkey at a multilateral level, including within NATO and in relation to Mediterranean basin issues.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Erdogan for his diplomatic mediation efforts regarding the conflict between russia and Ukraine, in particular, for his assistance in the implementation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

The meeting also addressed issues of development and security on the African continent in anticipation of the upcoming Italy-Africa summit in Rome.

Regarding Turkey's accession to the EU, a process which Meloni has historically opposed, it appears that discussions are still in their early stages
