Diplomat Alexander Hara believes that the delay in arms deliveries to Ukraine influenced the US decision to grant permission to strike Russian territory with their weapons
He expressed this opinion on Espresso
"Every time the Russian Federation commits another war crime, our Western partners are horrified and cross the red lines of their fear and start reacting to help Ukraine. If we are talking about authorizing strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation with American weapons, this decision in Washington was made quite consciously. In particular, one of the reasons was the fact that Ukraine had not been supplied with weapons for more than half a year. This is what allowed the Russian Federation to accumulate forces and launch an offensive on Kharkiv region", Hara explained.
According to the diplomat, the U.S. decision to grant Ukraine permission to strike the Russian territory with their weapons is quite balanced
"The U.S. realized that not allowing the Ukrainian Defense Forces to strike the Russian territory only gives the occupants more opportunities to attack the territory of Ukraine. Accordingly, a decision was made to strike Russia. Let it be half-hearted, but still there. This will allow Ukraine to destroy the forces and means of the occupiers, which they are accumulating near our borders", he added.
- On May 31, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken confirmed that President Joe Biden secretly authorized Ukraine to strike targets on Russian territory with American weapons. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the corresponding message was from the United States and called such an action by the ally "a step forward". At the same time, a representative of the US National Security Council commented on the borders of the Russian Federation, which are covered by the US authorization
