Russia brings Chechen militants to occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP
Russia has brought Chechen militants to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. In one of the premises, they set up a shooting range
"Russians are using the seized nuclear power plant as a military base for their militants. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar is home to Chechen units of the Russian Guard "Akhmat" (OMON and SOBR), which have set up a base at the plant. In one of the premises, the Chechens even set up a shooting range", the statement said.
It is noted that the presence of militants and military equipment at the station is explained by the occupiers as allegedly protecting the facility, but in fact they are needed to patrol the city and use repression against Ukrainians.
Recall that the Russians occupied the Zaporizhzhia NPP at the end of February 2022. Since then, personnel and military equipment have been permanently stationed there, which the invaders store in the machine rooms and from time to time bring to positions to shell the territories of the Nikopol district of the Dnipro region.
The IAEA monitoring mission is working at the plant to ensure that the NPP is not used as a military base, that the plant is not attacked or fired upon, and that external power supplies are not interrupted. However, blackouts at NPPs occur constantly.
- Earlier, the IAEA Board of Governors supported a draft resolution on nuclear safety, security and safeguards in Ukraine by a majority vote. It requires the return of Zaporizhzhia NPP under the control of Kyiv.
