It is noted that the only person on board, the pilot, was conscious. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

A US official said the plane was a new F-35 and belonged to the US Marine Corps.

The plane was being flown by a Defense Contract Management Agency pilot who was transporting the F-35 from a Lockheed factory for commissioning when the crash occurred. Firefighters extinguished the fire.

  • On Tuesday, April 30, near Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, an F-16 fighter jet of the United States Air Force crashed.
  • On January 31, an American F-16 fighter jet came down  in the waters off the west coast of South Korea, but the pilot managed to eject.
