Romania becomes European centre for innovative nuclear technology
The European Investment Bank (EIB) announced on Friday a EUR 145 million loan to finance the nuclear safety project at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant in Romania. The project, carried out in partnership with Societatea Națională Nuclearelectrica SA, will bring major benefits in eliminating tritium, helping to protect the environment and public health.
The Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant project includes the first tritium removal unit in Europe and the third in the world. The EIB supports this initiative, highlighting its benefits for health, safety and the circular economy. Nuclearelectrica CEO Cosmin Ghiță stresses that this project contributes to the development of the nuclear sector in line with the national energy policy and makes Romania a leader in the nuclear industry.
The project uses an innovative Romanian technology developed by the National Research and Development Institute for Cryogenic and Isotope Technologies - ICSI Rm. Vâlcea.
