Center for Countering Disinformation refutes fake about mass burning of cars by Ukrainians
At the scene, russian propaganda used a 2020 video to create a fake story about Ukrainians
The Center for Countering Disinformation has reported that russian propagandists are spreading a fake story that Ukrainians are burning their cars en masse due to the entry into force of the law on mobilization No 10449. Under this law, Ukrainians can allegedly have their cars seized for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In fact, as the Center found out, the story is a fake. The video of burning cars was filmed in 2020. russians edited it, adding the logo of a fictitious TV channel and English subtitles to give the impression that the story was filmed by a foreign media outlet.
"Trying to sow discord in society, russian propaganda uses any occasion, covering it from a position convenient to itself", the Center for Countering Disinformation said.
On 20 May, the Center for Countering Disinformation warned about a russian fake that Volodymyr Zelenskyy had "not prolonged but usurped power in Ukraine".
