The British agency noted that Russia is currently experiencing a labor shortage, which is becoming a significant problem for some sectors of the economy. Referring to one of the Russian publications, the British intelligence pointed out that in 2023, the Russian Federation had a shortage of 4.8 million workers.

"The labor shortage is at least partly caused by Russia's war in Ukraine, which led to the mobilization of part of the working population and the emigration of some skilled professionals who tried to avoid the draft. Recently, the labor shortage has been exacerbated by restrictions on the employment of migrants imposed after the ISIS-K terrorist attack in Moscow on March 22, 2024", the statement said.

The intelligence officers added that due to the shortage of labor, a group of Russian parliamentarians is considering amending the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.

  • Related news from the Institute for the Study of War stated that Russia is facing a shortage of skilled and unskilled labor amid the Kremlin's inconsistent and contradictory policies that disincentivize Russians who fled the country and migrant workers from working in the country while trying to increase Russia's industrial potential and military.
