Operation PIROTEHNIC 2023-2024: 141 tonnes of pyrotechnic articles seized by police
National action to increase safety during the winter holidays
In an attempt to ensure a safe and peaceful environment during the winter holidays, the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police has successfully executed Operation 'PIROTEHNIC. According to a press release, this initiative, coordinated by the Directorate of Weapons, Explosives and Dangerous Substances, was carried out at national level and aimed at preventing, detecting and combating negative events related to non-compliance with the rules on the storage and use of pyrotechnic articles.
As a result of the action, police forces managed to seize the impressive total of 141.735 kilograms of pyrotechnic articles, including hazard categories F1, F2, F3, F4 and P1. This seizure had a total estimated value of more than 6,300,000 lei, serving as a preventive measure to protect citizens from the risks associated with the irresponsible use of pyrotechnic articles.
In addition to substantial seizures, police efforts resulted in 1,070 criminal cases being opened, in which 1,200 offences were identified. At the same time, 600 fines were imposed, with a total value of approximately 1,000,000 lei. These decisive actions were aimed at raising the alarm and sanctioning any violation of the regulations on pyrotechnic articles.
The Inspectorate General of the Romanian Police announces that ongoing checks on pyrotechnic material operations will continue throughout the year, this reaffirms their commitment to citizen safety and preventing future incidents related to careless use of pyrotechnics.
