On May 17, the French company Danone announced that it had completed the sale of its businesses and announced the end of its operations in Russia

This is reported by espreso.tv

"Today Danone announced that it has completed the sale of its food business in Russia to Vamin R LLC after obtaining the necessary permits from Russian regulatory authorities", the company said in a statement.

The company did not provide additional details on the financial terms of the transaction.

French newspaper Le Figaro reported that it took Danone more than seven months after Russia's invasion of Ukraine to begin the process of moving its operations to the country, where the group, then called BSN, was one of the first multinationals to settle in August 1992, a few months after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Danone sold milk and yogurt there under the Danone, Danissimo and Prostokvashino brands. In 2010, the group acquired 57.5% of the second Russian dairy company Unimilk (21% of the market and 25 plants) with ambitions to strengthen its presence in this market.

Russia accounts for about 5% of Danone's global turnover.

  • It is noted that at the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Danone said it would remain in Russia when other Western companies left its market. However, on October 14, 2022, it announced its withdrawal from the Russian market.
  • The French company Danone intends to sell its businesses in Russia to a businessman who is close to the Kremlin and is associated with the nephew of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
