The proceeds from the tariff increase will be used to develop generation and restore power facilities
Announced by MP, member of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities, Sergiy Nagornyak. According to him, the Cabinet of Ministers is discussing an increase in electricity tariffs for household consumers to UAH 4.5-5 per kW starting June 1. Mr. Nagornyak noted that such a decision is likely to be made. At the same time, he emphasized that the funds will be used to finance the development of generation rather than service companies.

"Energoatom annually subsidizes the population by about UAH 100 billion, Ukrhydroenergo — by about UAH 25 billion. The funds received from the tariff increase will be accumulated to restore Ukrhydroenergo's capacities and to build Khmelnytskyi NPP Units 3 and 4. Our own generation is very important for us now", the MP said.
Nagornyak also commented on the blackouts, noting that the situation should improve in the coming days, but not during evening peaks. According to him, even electricity imports are not covering the shortage now.

"We are currently negotiating with Western financial institutions on loans to restore generation. Obviously, this is not a quick process. And, frankly, besides money, it takes a lot of time to restore power facilities", he added.

On May 9, former Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Minister Ivan Plachkov said that Ukraine was entering a difficult summer season, but the power system would not go down.
