Medvedchuk's "Druha Ukraina" project's underground cell exposed in Kyiv: curator of Zharkikh group is suspected
The Security Service of Ukraine has detained in Kyiv associates of former MP Viktor Medvedchuk who worked in his pro-Kremlin project "Druha Ukraina" and created anti-Ukrainian content. In particular, the group's curator Denis Zharkikh was notified of suspicion
This is reported by espreso.tv
"In Kyiv, an agent group was working on the "project", which was engaged in information sabotage against Ukraine. In particular, its members disseminated video content discrediting the Defense Forces and calling on Ukrainians to lay down their arms and surrender to the occupiers", the SBU said.
The specialists who created anti-Ukrainian content set up an underground studio in their own home in Kyiv region, where they made custom videos.
The defendants then sent the finished media products to their Russian curator, Denis Zharkikh, who was a presenter on Medvedchuk's TV channels and now serves as the director of his organization "Other Ukraine" in Moscow.
After reviewing the videos, Zharkikh gave permission for their distribution on the Internet.
The suspects used information resources controlled by Medvedchuk, in particular, the Druha Ukraina website, social media pages and YouTube video hosting.
During the searches of the suspects, computer equipment and mobile phones with evidence of subversive activities in favor of the enemy were found.
"Based on the evidence collected, SBU investigators served two members of the agent group a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). In addition, under the same article of the Criminal Code, the group's curator, the director of the organization "Druha Ukraina" Denis Zharkikh, was suspected", the SBU summarizes.
Note: according to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
