Bartholomew calls for exchange of prisoners
The Ecumenical Patriarch also expressed support for the initiative to exchange prisoners of war for Easter
On the night of May 5, during the Easter liturgy, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew made a call for the exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and russia on the principle of "all for all". This information was provided by the public movement for the search and return home of the russian army's military, "Our Way Out".
"We pray for a just peace in long-suffering Ukraine. Spiritually, we support the initiative of "Nash Vykhod" to exchange prisoners of war between russia and Ukraine on the occasion of the great Easter holiday. This would be a very concrete expression of the power of the Resurrection. We pray to the Lord of mercy to enlighten our minds and hearts so that we can walk the path of truth and freedom, full of resurrection and hope, with the risen Christ on our lips", Bartholomew said.
He added that on behalf of the relatives of the captured soldiers, he asks on this day of Holy Easter, on the day of universal forgiveness and the greatness of the Spirit, to call on the powers that be to exchange prisoners on the principle of "all for all". Pope Francis also called on Ukraine and russia to exchange all prisoners. Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, noted that everything depends on russia.
