"Forty-two dead, according to the most conservative estimates. There are more people in the mud", said Susan Kihika, governor of Nakuru County.

Also, over the past month, more than 100 people have died in floods that have hit parts of Kenya.

Local media reports that rescuers are searching a village near the small town of Mai Mahiu, about 60 kilometers from the capital Nairobi.
