Today, on April 17, President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, had a phone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, during which the Secretary General confirmed the convening of the NATO—Ukraine Council

He said this on Telegram.

"The Alliance Secretary General confirmed the convening of an extraordinary meeting of the NATO—Ukraine Council at Ukraine's request. It will be held on April 19 at the level of defense ministers. I am grateful to Jens Stoltenberg and partners for their quick response. Ukraine needs immediate steps to strengthen its air defense", the president wrote.

Zelenskyy told Stoltenberg about the morning russian attack on Chernihiv, as well as the consequences for Ukraine's energy sector from the enemy's terror.

The interlocutors also discussed the implementation of initiatives to supply weapons to Ukraine.

  • On April 16, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he would request a meeting of the NATOUkraine Council to discuss "protecting the sky, supplying air defense, relevant systems and missiles".
  • On April 17, Jens Stoltenberg said that a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council would be held on Friday, April 19, with the participation of President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
