The release of Primrose Hill took place on April 12.
"As a child, I saw a beautiful summer day in Scotland. As I continued, I saw my true love and savior in my imagination. Primrose Hill is about starting with yourself and finding that person", James McCartney wrote on April 2 before the song's release.
James McCartney participated in the solo music of both his parents, and also released several of his own records. Sean Ono Lennon has released several solo recordings and performed with bands such as Cibo Matto, his own Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and Lennon Claypool Delirium.
Paul McCartney also decided to promote his son's song on social media.
"My son James has a new song called Primrose Hill - check it out! And a big love to Sean Ono Lennon, who co-wrote the song", he wrote on Facebook.
James McCartney also announced a contest inviting couples in love to share their videos for Primrose Hill that "capture the essence of love and romance in their favorite place". In the video, shot by his sister Mary McCartney, James himself dances under the night sky to the ballad. The winners will get the opportunity to appear in the video for the track.
