Biden administration calls on Congress to prevent "bringing Kyiv to its knees"
White House warns US Congress that funds for Ukraine are running out
The director of the US Office of Management and Budget, Shalanda Young, has written a letter to congressional leaders in which she emphasized that funds for military and financial support for Ukraine will run out before the end of this year.
This was reported by the Financial Times .
"I want to be clear: without congressional action, we will run out of resources to purchase additional weapons and equipment for Ukraine and provide equipment from U.S. military stockpiles by the end of the year," Young wrote.
She warned that depleted funding could give russia an advantage on the battlefield. Young emphasized that the refusal of Congress to approve new support "will bring Kyiv to its knees on the battlefield."
The representative of the Joe Biden administration reminded that already now the US military aid packages to Ukraine have become much smaller, although it is American aid that is decisive in this war.
"If Ukraine's economy collapses, they will not be able to continue fighting, period. putin understands this well, which is why russia has made the destruction of the Ukrainian economy a central element of its strategy - as you can see in its attacks on Ukrainian grain exports and energy infrastructure," Young said.
In September, the White House asked Congress to approve a $106 billion supplemental funding package containing more than $61 billion in funding for Ukraine, but so far these funds have not been allocated, in particular due to the opposition of far-right Republicans in the House of Representatives.
