Fraudsters impersonated officials to exploit draft evaders

The Security Service of Ukraine detained racketeers in Odesa region who posed as law enforcement officers, forged official documents and demanded bribes from individuals accused of draft evasion.

This was reported by the press service SBU .

"The attackers posed as officials of the Security Service and the military commissariat and "extorted" money from potential recruits. In exchange for various amounts of "payoff", the offenders promised the victims not to bring them to criminal responsibility for allegedly evading mobilization," - the SBU said.

The attackers demanded $20,000 from one of the local residents. If an individual refused to pay, the fraudsters threatened them with physical violence and kidnapping."

"For "convincing" the attackers forged SBU chevrons and presented their victims with a fake ID of a Ukrainian special service officer", - the SBU said.

In a related report, the Security Service of Ukraine also detained a resident of Kyiv who corrected the russian missile strike on one of the buildings of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Shevchenko National University, and also collected data on the locations of Ukrainian troops in Zhytomyr region.

The offenders have been detained and could face up to 12 years in prison.
