Turkish parliamentary committee supports Sweden's accession to NATO
After approval by the Committee, the issue of Sweden's accession to NATO will be considered by the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey
At its meeting, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Parliament supported the ratification of the protocol on Sweden's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.
This is reported by the AR.
It is noted that this decision of the committee provides for further consideration of the issue at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The ratification process requires the support of a simple majority of voters. The date of the next vote has not yet been determined.
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made an appeal to the parliament in October, supporting the ratification of the protocol on Sweden's accession to NATO. The delay in parliamentary consideration was due to the lack of priority for this issue. However, Erdogan expressed hope that "positive developments" in the United States and Canada could facilitate faster ratification.
