China criticizes US sanctions on Russia's Arctic LNG-2 project

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that their cooperation with Russia should not be subject to interference or restrictions from any third party

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that China's participation in the Russian liquefied natural gas project Arctic LNG-2 should not be subject to interference or restrictions by third parties.

Reuters reports.

This statement was a reaction to the fact that the United States imposed sanctions against the Arctic LNG-2 project in November because of the war in Ukraine unleashed by Russia.

Russian company Novatek declared force majeure due to sanctions, and Chinese companies CNOOC Ltd and China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) reported force majeure in the project.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that economic cooperation between China and Russia is in the mutual interests of both countries and should be protected from any interference or restrictions.
