Belgian Prime Minister defines China as a "hostile" country after spy scandal is revealed
The scandal involves a far-right politician from the Flemish Interest party
Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Kroo called China a "sometimes very hostile" country, especially in the context of the latest spy scandal.
This is stated in the report of Euractiv.
"We should not underestimate how much foreign countries do not like our democracy and our unity. Unlike Russia, China does not attack our continent, but it remains a country that is sometimes very hostile. This should not be dismissed as a trifle," the Belgian prime minister said.
He stressed that these aspects should be taken seriously, as China is likely trying to use its influence to destabilize Belgian democracy.
Against the backdrop of this scandal involving the cooperation of a far-right politician with Chinese spies, De Kroo also expressed his indignation and noted that Belgian democracy is for sale, and China is trying to buy influence to interfere in Belgium's internal affairs. The prime minister called for attention to this issue and emphasized its seriousness.
