Romanian President Anticipates Joint Accession of Ukraine and Republic of Moldova to the EU: Hope in European Solidarity
Klaus Iohannis expresses the conviction that the majority opinion in the European Council will support the simultaneous accession of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to the European Union
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis expressed confidence in European solidarity ahead of his participation in the European Union-Western Balkans Summit in Brussels. In an intervention on the presidential administration's website, Iohannis said that the prevailing opinion in the European Council would support the simultaneous accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the EU. However, he stressed that the outcome was not guaranteed and that intensive discussions would be held to find an acceptable compromise, reports the Presidential Administration. Iohannis reiterated that solidarity and unity of the European Union are key in this process and stressed the need for political compromise. On the accession of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, Iohannis noted that the majority opinion in the European Council favoured a joint approach of the two countries in the European integration process.
