Zelenskyy Delivers Ultimatum to Orban Regarding NATO Negotiations
President of Ukraine demands an explanation from Hungarian Prime Minister
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has demanded that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban explain why his government is blocking Ukraine from starting negotiations on joining NATO.
Zelenskyy made this statement during a joint press conference at the Nordic Summit.
"I made it clear to him that he has no reason to block Ukraine's membership in the European Union. I asked him to give me at least one reason. Not three, not five, not ten, but only one reason, and I am waiting for an answer", Zelenskyy said.
The President of Ukraine clarified that this conversation occurred by chance, as there was no scheduled meeting with the Hungarian prime minister.
"I think we need to organise a constructive meeting between our countries, because we have common borders, we are neighbours and we need to talk", Zelenskyy said.
As a reminder, on 14-15 December, leaders will convene at a summit to consider initiating negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU. Hungary is currently the only country categorically opposed to these negotiations.
